Discernment Committee for a new Rector

Who We Are:

St John the Evangelist church is searching for a full time ordained Rector to lead our congregation.  We are a parish within the diocese of NJ, located at 1720 Old Black Horse Pike, Chews Landing NJ.  We are a small to medium sized congregation (A.S.A ~85) that has a broad spectrum of parishioners from all walks of life.  St. John’s is a small and spirited parish that has sustained our ministry during periods of growth and decline. We look forward to working with an enthusiastic Rector who will
join our family and help us continue to grow in God’s vision for St. John’s.

Current Senior Warden’s Name: Patricia Bosch

Nominating/Search Committee Chair’s Name: Phyllis Sowers and Linda Ambler

Our Strengths:

St. John’s is a family oriented, welcoming community. All are welcome to join us in worship and fellowship. There is a strong core group of dedicated parishioners who guide the Church to maintain stability. Multiple fellowship events throughout the year bring the
congregation together. Our church school is well attended and our Holy Communion program is recognized by the Diocese. We have a strong music program and adult choir. Our children’s choir participates during special events and services.

Our Challenges:

Like all churches, our challenge is growing our parish and assimilating new members into the congregation. We need to improve stewardship development and to identify gifts for ministry. We also need to address discipleship training to spread the good news of Christ. Our unique challenge is how to balance the historical nature of the church building and
modern parish hall to contemporary needs.

Who are we looking for:

We are looking for someone who is skilled in relating holy scripture to contemporary life and recognize the importance of integrating music into the service. We also want a candidate who will bring interpersonal skills, business acumen, a deep faith, love of children, compassion for the elderly, as well as actively partake in our fellowship activities. We look forward to working with an enthusiastic Rector who will join our family and help us continue to grow in God’s vision for St. John’s.
